Course Description:

Join renowned artist and designer CarolAnn Wachter as she shares her expertise in color, shape, and composition!

Starting with a still life as the point of departure, students will observe, paint, and draw using scissors to discover and develop a personal visual language of shape, color, and texture. Through 3–4 quick studies of the still life, CarolAnn will guide you in strengthening composition, shape, and understanding color as light. You’ll also focus on color mixing, exploring color relationships, and establishing a clear hierarchy of value within your work.

Techniques taught

  • Observation first – seeing like an artist
  • Color relationships – how colors influence each other on the page
  • Practical composition tools – hierarchy, focal point, balance
