May 5 @ 8:00 am - 9:00 am
Morning StArt is a joint one-hour coffee meetup program designed to bring artists in the area together with the Golden community to meet and talk about art. Come and grab a cup of coffee with a local metal artist, Katy McClure.
Artist Statement:
I first fell in love with metal almost a decade ago while making steel shelf brackets. After that, I spent a decade teaching as a Special Education Teacher for the Philadelphia Public School District and moonlighting as a metal artist. In 2019 my partner and I packed our metal shop and house to drive cross county to Colorado. After leaving teaching to focus on metal full time was where I found my passion. I work with silver, copper, brass, steel, niobium and titanium. While working with Niobium and titanium, which are reactive metals. I use the anodization process to create colors such as blue, pink, purple, yellow and green.
What I love the most about metal is the transformation it takes during the process. I take raw material that is cold, sterile, and turn it into a story of warmth and suppleness. Each part of the process of moving, shaping and removing metal to create.
