Artist Talk with Michael Gatlin

Monday, October 20 from 5:30 – 6:30 pm at The Eddy Taproom & Hotel

We invite you to immerse yourself in the world of J Michael Gatlin’s art and to join us for what promises to be an enlightening and inspiring artist talk!

Michael will highlight the journey he goes through, from the initial idea and sketches, to the larger finished paintings, and all of the missteps along the way.

Michael has developed a very personal style of loose precision, highlighting the fluidity inherent in watercolor alongside an ability to show the expression and form of whatever subject he’s working to capture. And his work is primarily on paper which emphasizes the beauty of the fragility and impermanence of our lives.

“I love painting objects for the simple reason that each object carries with it a rich history, a record of the people and places it has touched. Furthermore, each is an invitation to future possibilities. These objects are stunningly beautiful and deserve to be noticed and cherished.”

He aims to elevate these items to larger-than-life portrayals, encouraging us to appreciate their significance in our everyday lives.

“Whether it’s a simple screwdriver passed down through generations, a rusty old spark plug, a tree in our yard, or even the person seated near us at the cafe—each one deserves our notice and attentive presence.”

J Michael Gatlin will exhibit his newer, award winning paintings from September 30th to November 15, in the gallery at The Eddy Taproom & Hotel.

This exhibition features recent paintings of found objects, everyday objects presented in large and expressive paintings, alongside the studies Michael made along the way.
