August 23 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Join us for an artist talk by Moe Scance, a local visual artist whose new exhibit “Based on a True Story,” showcases twenty new works-on-paper. Her drawings, rich in detail and whimsy, reveal a world of magical landscapes and intimate settings meant to capture the imagination or stir a memory. Bittersweet and nostalgic, dreamlike and epic – each piece invites the viewer to discover a story.

Born and raised in Washington, D.C., she attended Temple University’s Tyler School of Art, receiving a BFA degree. From there she followed a career path based on graphic design, then newspaper design, leading eventually to her long-term award-winning career at The Denver Post.

She began her studio career in 2008, using hand-me-down tools from her professional life: drawing table, t-square, exacto knife and newsprint, light table, tracing paper, flat file. Her artistic mediums include graphite, block-printing ink, Caran d’Ache wax crayons and oil pastels. With years of dedicated practice, Moe makes paper tell a story that feels true.

Her work has been featured in juried exhibitions at D’Art Gallery, Core Art Space, Lone Tree Arts Center, Curtis Center for the Arts and Museum of Art of Fort Collins. Her present show at Foothills Art Center’s Astor House Gallery is her first solo exhibition.

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear Scance reflect on her journey, her influences, and the stories behind her artworks.

Free to attend! All welcome.
