Edgar Degas: The Private Impressionist

APRIL 6 – JUNE 30, 2013

Foothills Art Center is thrilled to bring an extraordinary and rarely viewed exhibition to Colorado, from April 6 through June 30, 2013! Edgar Degas: The Private Impressionist presents a unique selection of drawings, prints and photographs by the illustrious French artist, Edgar Degas (1834-1917). Exploring beyond Degas’ familiar ballerinas, you will experience a fascinating view into his art and life including his early drawings of objects in the Louvre Museum. The exhibition is enriched with rare works of art on paper by friends and colleagues in Degas’ circle; other well-known artists of the period including Mary Cassatt, Paul Cezanne, Jean-Léon Gérôme, Jean-August-Dominique Ingres, Gustav Moreau and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.

We are honored to provide an opportunity for visitors to experience Degas, one of the fathers of Impressionism, with these beautiful and thought-provoking works. This follows our incredibly popular 2012 exhibition of world-renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly, which welcomed an unprecedented 17,000 visitors to Foothills Art Center. We are proud to bring the Edgar Degas: The Private Impressionist exhibition to Colorado, and anticipate we will once again have a record-breaking number of visitors, from across the state and beyond, in our galleries.

Housed in a building listed on the National Register of Historic Places, our newly renovated galleries will provide an ideal setting for this unique exhibition. Together with a full complement of lectures, tours, panel discussions, in-gallery experiences and studio classes, we will bring the exhibition to life!

Edgar Degas: The Private Impressionist – Works on Paper by the Artist and His Circle was organized by Landau Traveling Exhibitions, Los Angeles, CA in association with Denenberg Fine Arts, West Hollywood, CA. This exhibition is presented by GURA
