Description:
Born in Japan and raised in Colorado, Robert Bell developed an early connection to art through drawing and painting the people in natural landscapes. Influenced by his parents’ Eastern roots and a lifelong exposure to diverse visual cultures, his work reflects a deep engagement with identity, movement, and transformation. He earned a BFA in Graphic Design from Colorado State University and completed graduate studies in Studio Art at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
Rooted in portraiture and the human form, Bell’s work often features dual-posed figures joined at the hips, symbolizing fluidity, connection, and the evolving nature of lived experience. Working with chalk pastel, spray paint, metallic leaf, and resin on layered wood panels and cutouts, he creates vibrant, three-dimensional surfaces that merge organic and geometric forms. Through this fusion of the familiar and the fantastical, his work explores our connection to one another and the natural world while inviting curiosity, reflection, and emotional engagement. Recently he has pivoted to indoor and outdoor mural work and is currently working on several public art commissions in the Denver area.
