THREE MASTERS OF COLORADO WOODTURNING

JANUARY 22 – MARCH 15, 2013

Over the past 25 years, woodturning has come into its own as a means for artistic expression. Vessels, tables and other utilitarian objects are now seen as rich in possibilities for the artists. Colorado is home to many outstanding woodturners and Foothills Art Center is pleased to present the work of three outstanding practioners: Jon Garcia, Keith Gotschall and Paul Stafford.

Each of these artists works with nature’s raw material, demonstrating a unique skill and sensibility. Paul Stafford, well known to our audiences for his zippered vessels, is represented by a number of works that take their inspiration from the underlying nature of wood itself. Keith Gotschall, who lives in Salida Colorado, is interested in the expressive capacities of wood to be used as furniture and sculpture. Jon Garcia, who graduated from the School of Industrial Design at MSU Denver, creates elaborate, intricate wood-laminate objects that are often designed on a computer.
