For 54 years, we've exhibited a wide variety of art and artists for our patrons. These two exhibitions are the last at our 809 15th Street location until our galleries are complete at Astor House in late summer this year. Join us to experience our community's talent and creativity as we celebrate this transition for Foothills Art Center!

Friday, March 24, 5-7 pm Enjoy tasty bites, live music from Vio the Violinist, and a discussion about the show from our Executive Director, Hassan. We are so excited to wrap up this show with a bang and celebrate all of the artists and their incredible work.

ARTIST QUOTE: Yosemite National Park is full of dramatic locations for photography, this particular day was the first snow of the year in Yosemite. As the snow started falling in Yosemite this November morning, my adventure partner Jesse Manton and I rushed up the 4.8 mile 3,200 vertical foot climb to the top of Glacier Point. We knew a perch would provide a dramatic image with the weather being so lively. I stood on one rock outcrop and directed Jesse to walk out on his perch from afar, immediately an updraft of clouds started circulating and I snapped away to create this dynamic image.

A true Colorado native, Gabe’s upbringing fostered an insatiable appetite for creating unforgettable imagery. This entrepreneurial adrenaline junky’s camera has taken him deep in the Canadian backcountry, across Europe, through Asia and to Yosemite National Park (and beyond) where he captured this inspiring shot.

Guest juror, Traci Zajaczkowski, asked the artists,"how did your emotions affect your artistic process while making this work?" The artists' answers have been printed on their labels and will offer you extra insight into creating the work.

Here is what Dave had to say, "In selecting the title,"A Square in...", I was seeking an emotional response from the viewer. Completing the sentence is easy when viewing the piece, but the subject matter is, and should be, very personal. The title reflects my concerns about the way in which we seem to view each other today, in both domestic and international scenarios, and how we treat each other, as well as my hope that we are able to return to civility and shared love for each other. This class aims to give students an understanding

This class aims to give students an understanding of the practice and history of still-life painting with oil. Drawing on impressionist techniques to modern-day painters, students will create their own contemporary twist on an age-old subject. The first class will demonstrate how to set up an underpainting by addressing the fundamentals of composition and proportion. The second class aims to introduce students to the basics of color theory, including hue vs. value, and how to set up a palette. This class is ideal for students new to oil painting or those who have a basic understanding and wish to delve deeper into painting from life.

Join Foothills’ staff and art loving members as we visit three of Denver’s museums in the Golden Triangle area. We will spend two nights at ART/a hotel, “Downtown Denver’s luxury hotel with an art bias”. The hotel has several art pieces on display throughout the building. Exclusive Director’s tours are planned on Saturday at the Clifford Still and Kirkland Museums. Brunch at the Ponti restaurant located in the Denver Art Museum and a docent tour of the museum are planned for Sunday. The trip is limited to only 20 participants, so don’t wait, sign up now.

"This piece was created during the pandemic (2020 -
2021), at a time when everything seemed unsettled to me. That sense of being "off balance" informs the design.
The Crow traditionally symbolizes the Trickster, and Cat's Cradle is a somewhat complex child's game, which can conceivably go on forever."
