DESCRIPTION:Many times\, we use photographs or artwork we admire as the basis for a portrait painting out of necessity. On Day One of this workshop\, we’ll review the basics of portrait painting in general\, such as proportion\, composition\, and getting the most out of the reference\, then paint the foundation on our canvas or panel. Viewers are invited to lose themselves in the vast landscapes portrayed\, capturing the essence of the world through subtle sunset hues to the deep blues of a stormy sea. \nWith a carefully honed creative process\, Jenny works on multiple pieces simultaneously\, using black-and-white photos of places as compositional references. Employing techniques like scumbling with a dry brush and utilizing t-shirt rags for paint application and removal\, she achieves a luminous quality through the use of a satin medium for blending. \nWhat sets Jenny Wilson apart is her ability to capture the intangible qualities of nature—air\, water\, earth\, and atmosphere. Her paintings transcend mere representations of physical landscapes\, becoming expressions of the emotions and sensations evoked by the natural world. Whether depicting memories or crafting entirely new landscapes\, each work carries a profound reverence for nature’s spiritual and emotional resonance.

SUMMARY:Alternative Printmaking Techniques
DESCRIPTION:Printing making is transferring an image from a matrix onto another surface. In this class we will explore that transfer process in a very loose and experimental way\, using\nsimple tools and techniques that yield surprising results. Think monotypes\, collagraphs\, gelatin prints\, making and using stencils\, making and using stamps\, found objects\, positive and negative shapes. \nParticipants will build leave with an arsenal of shapes and tools to cross pollinate the various techniques. The stamp and stencil shapes become part of your visual vocabulary. We will create a stack o’ prints on a variety of papers. DESCRIPTION:Meeting on Tuesday nights\, “Continuing Exploration of the Elements of Art” builds on previous explorations in artistic self-expression. Each night we begin with a review of the previous week’s artwork and works in progress\, followed by an exploration of a specific element of art that helps make for compelling work. The night includes a painting demonstration focused on the specific topic of the week. DESCRIPTION:Meeting on Monday nights\, “The Principles of Artistic Expression” includes all those beginning to paint\, returning to your art after a period of time\, intending to strengthen your skills\, or refining a style uniquely your own.
