DESCRIPTION:Morning StArt is a joint one-hour coffee meetup program designed to bring artists in the area together with the Golden community to meet and talk about art. Come and grab a cup of coffee with a local artist\, Tom van der Sloot\, https://www.justtomsart.com/ \nArtist Statement: \n“I am from Upstate New York\, and before that lived in West Virginia\, Tennessee and Alberta\, where I was born. My painting career did not start until relatively recently; I began painting consistently right before the onset of covid. While I did not paint for the majority of my life I liked to doodle and create digital artwork on Adobe Illustrator before I went to school for Industrial Design. There I learned to sketch prototypes of my product ideas\, rendering them almost exclusively in alcohol markers. During that time\, I also learned to use 3d modeling programs to make photorealistic renderings of potential product ideas. I believe this experience contributed to the controlled nature of my linework. It was not until around early 2022 that I properly defined my processes\, and I am a strong proponent of the idea that these processes will always need refinement as I continue my artistic journey. \nMuch of my works and compositions are inspired by thoughts and ideas I have when I am in that dreamlike right before falling asleep\, late at night during the witching hours\, or on a long drive through the prairies and mountains of western America. Ultimately what I am aiming for with my work is to illustrate my subconscious in as accurate a way as possible while maintaining a balance between light and dark. While my work tends to lend itself to the surrealist realm\, most of my artistic role models are impressionist and post-impressionist.”

DESCRIPTION:This class aims to give students an understanding of the practice and history of still-life painting with oil. Drawing on impressionist techniques to modern-day painters\, students will create their own contemporary twist on an age-old subject. The first class will demonstrate how to set up an underpainting by addressing the fundamentals of composition and proportion. The second class aims to introduce students to the basics of color theory\, including hue vs. value\, and how to set up a palette. DESCRIPTION:Youth Summer Class Ages 7-12\nCeramic Portraits\nJune 12-16\, 2023 \nLet’s play with clay! During this class\, each student will create a self-portrait sketch including a head\, neck\, body\, arms\, legs and feet. These pieces will then be cut out of clay slabs. Once the pieces are fired\, the body parts will be colored and assembled using wire. These clay self-portraits can then be hung at home as a wall piece. DESCRIPTION:Designed to bring Golden residents together and features fun for all ages\, including live music\, family-oriented activities\, and great food and beer. \nLearn more about Summer Jam here. \nPresented by Miners Saloon\, the Golden Civic Foundation is proud to host our 6th Annual Golden Summer Jam\, a Community Celebration of Bands\, Bites and Beers for 800 guests on Thursday\, June 22nd at the beautiful Colorado Railroad Museum from 5:30 – 9:30pm! This Golden-resourced\, “locals-only\,” community-oriented event is designed to bring Golden residents together and features fun for all ages including live music\, family-oriented activities\, and great food and beer by “Beer Sponsor” New Terrain Brewing. \nThis year’s performers include Earl Nelson & The Company (Rocky Mountain Hill Country Blues)\, The Wrecklunds (Americana)\, and Kayla Ruby (Contemporary Country) – three rockin’ bands with Golden connections! Guests can also explore the Museum’s scenic\, 15-acre railyard that is home to more than 100 locomotives\, catch a ride on a vintage passenger train\, delight in the charm of the miniature garden railway and enjoy a variety of fun activities provided by local\, non-profit partners and businesses. Food will be sold by local food vendors including Bob’s Atomic Burgers\, Truck Eddy\, Pambasos and Happy Cones. Beer will be sold by New Terrain Brewing and margaritas by Miners Saloon. \nGuests are encouraged to bring their own blankets and/or lawn chairs to help spread out throughout the Railroad Museum’s spacious grounds nestled at the base of North Table Mountain\, while enjoying community and the awesome sights\, sounds and tastes of Golden.
