SUMMARY:Golden StArt with Erika Vassallo
DESCRIPTION:Golden StArt with Erika Vassallo\nWednesday\, December 9\, 8:00-9:00am\nFREE\, RSVP Recommended\nLocation: Foothills Art Center – Creative Campus\, 809 15th Street. \nDescription: Golden StArt is a joint one-hour meetup program designed to bring artists in the area together with the Golden community to meet and talk about art. Join us for a chat with collage artist Erika Vassallo. \nAbout Erika:\nMy name is Erika Vassallo and I am an emerging artist that works primarily in collage. There is a special feeling that comes over me when I find a photograph or scrap of paper\, current or vintage\, and I know that I have to keep it. I have dozens of bins that hold a scrap of paper\, sometimes for years\, waiting to be matched with another piece. I try to keep my images simple\, hoping that the viewer will look at the image and want to look twice or at least walk away saying “hmmm”. A reinterpretation of the original images that will move the eye in an interesting way. I have no formal art training\, just a love for paper and a strong desire to learn as much as I can with the resources around me. \nI have enjoyed collage with my daughters for years. Collage is community and can be done alone or with a group. I am grateful to Foothills Art Center for such a vibrant and welcoming community that allows me to learn and share my work.

This month: Toy Repairs! \n  \nLearn the techniques of visible mending with a demonstration showing creative ways to apply visible stitches. Bring a soft toy\, for kids or pets\, that you’d like to mend\, or practice the new skill on a provided sample piece. \n  \nBuild community\, learn practical skills\, and make new friends as you explore creative ways to reuse\, repair\, and repurpose textiles. Each session begins with a skill demonstration\, followed by time to make or mend together. The focus is on the process —not the finished product— and on learning textile skills we can share and practice as a community. You’re welcome to try the day’s technique\, or simply bring along a textile project you’re already working on and enjoy making with fellow textile lovers. In the meantime\, save clothes\, towels\, cloth napkins\, and other fabrics that could use a little mending or a new purpose. \n  \nContact: For any questions\, please email our Gallery and Programs Associate nathaniel@foothillsartcenter.org \n  \nPlease Note: Classes and workshops may be cancelled if enrollment minimums are not reached. You will be notified by telephone at least 3 days prior to the scheduled start date should cancellation become necessary. \n  \nArtist Bios: \nLia is a skilled knitter who loves learning new techniques and sharing them with others. She is an Open Studio Artist at Foothills Art Center\, making art weekly at our Creative Campus. Lia also volunteers at Foothills Art Center\, supporting events and programs. Lia helps facilitate SPARK!\, a monthly art-viewing and making program for people living with dementia and their caregivers.  \n  \nAngela is a maker with an architect’s eye\, bringing creativity and a thoughtful design perspective to her work. As the lead architect for the renovation and addition of Foothills Art Center’s Astor House\, she brings her love of adaptive reuse to a smaller scale by repairing\, repurposing\, and giving new life to well-loved clothing.
