SUMMARY:Artist Talk with Michael Gatlin
DESCRIPTION:Monday\, October 20 from 5:30 – 6:30 pm at The Eddy Taproom & Hotel \nWe invite you to immerse yourself in the world of J Michael Gatlin’s art and to join us for what promises to be an enlightening and inspiring artist talk! \nMichael will highlight the journey he goes through\, from the initial idea and sketches\, to the larger finished paintings\, and all of the missteps along the way. \nMichael has developed a very personal style of loose precision\, highlighting the fluidity inherent in watercolor alongside an ability to show the expression and form of whatever subject he’s working to capture. And his work is primarily on paper which emphasizes the beauty of the fragility and impermanence of our lives. \n“I love painting objects for the simple reason that each object carries with it a rich history\, a record of the people and places it has touched. Furthermore\, each is an invitation to future possibilities. These objects are stunningly beautiful and deserve to be noticed and cherished.” \nHe aims to elevate these items to larger-than-life portrayals\, encouraging us to appreciate their significance in our everyday lives. \n“Whether it’s a simple screwdriver passed down through generations\, a rusty old spark plug\, a tree in our yard\, or even the person seated near us at the cafe—each one deserves our notice and attentive presence.” \n_______ \nJ Michael Gatlin will exhibit his newer\, award winning paintings from September 30th to November 15\, in the gallery at The Eddy Taproom & Hotel. \nThis exhibition features recent paintings of found objects\, everyday objects presented in large and expressive paintings\, alongside the studies Michael made along the way.

SUMMARY:Artist Talk with Sarah Tenney & Jenna Annunziato
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an Artist Talk with Sarah Tenney and Jenna Annunziatio – in conversation about their joint exhibition\, Fragile Things. On view from September 6 – November 9. \nPainting in untraditional cut-outs\, Sarah Tenney and Jenna Annunziato explore relationships with others as well as to the things with which we surround ourselves. The pairing reflects the duality between the two artists: one orbiting nostalgia in the forgotten\, and false divinity; the other exploring connection\, conflict\, and intervention. \nBesides the shininess\, the commonalities among Annunziato’s objects lie in their value\, or lack thereof. Beautiful and broken objet d’art are portals to memories and counterfeit faith. Tenney steps into allegory using magical realism in her gentle depictions. Animals and people interact in moments fraught with disconnection and the tenuous understanding of others. Altogether this exhibition depicts tangible and intangible fragile things that fill the human experience. \nJenna Annunziato earned a BFA from SUNY and comes to Foothills Art Center having shown in exhibits across the country and with several residencies under her belt. Sarah Tenney earned her BFA from MSU Denver and has worked as a professional artist for almost 2 decades. Her collectors can be found across the Americas\, Europe\, and Australia. \nFree to attend! All welcome. \nSaturday 8 November\, 2-3pm \n1133 Arapahoe St\, Golden CO

SUMMARY:Modern Kintsugi - December
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday 3 December from 1:30 – 4 pm \nIn person at Foothills Art Center Creative Campus \n \nKintsugi is a 400 year old Japanese art form of the mending of ceramics — creating beauty from brokenness. Kintsugi’s philosophy reflects Japanese culture and teaches us the importance of cherishing and caring for things in our mass consumption society\, and the beauty of brokenness/imperfection in our things and in ourselves. \n \nIn this workshop we will guide a small group through a modern method of this ancient craft. You will see and feel the beauty you have created from the brokenness and reflect on your own life’s journey. All welcome and all materials needed for the experience will be provided. \n \n*NOTE* Each participant will need something broken or chipped to mend. Please do not break anything on purpose; the instructor will provide ceramic tiles for those who need one. \n \n$22 materials fee paid to instructor on day of workshop. \nMembers $100/ Non-Members & Friends $140 \n \n***To receive the member rate – please “login” on the upper right-hand corner of this page with the email associated with your membership***
