SUMMARY:March - Let's Get Glazey!
DESCRIPTION:Let’s Get Glazey! \nMarch Session \nSundays:\nMarch 2\, 9\, 16\, 23\n1pm-3:30pm\nClasses: $185 members\, $210 Friends/nonmembers \nAre you interested in learning how to make your own pottery glazes and explore new ways of firing and finishing your work? Join us for an exclusive class taught by ceramic artist Judy Madison! Students will get to visit Judy’s personal studio and have their own work fired in her gas kiln\, while learning about atmospheric firings and reaching new depths in the ceramics field. \nThis class will explore reduction firing and glazing. Reduction firing is a ceramic firing technique that uses an oxygen-deprived atmosphere to create unique colors and textures in clay. Students must be 18 years or older. Students will create their own pottery and forms and learn about glaze mixing and application for reduction. They will also learn about the safe operation of gas kilns. Enrolled students are welcome to bring in previously bisqued work made in a high-fire clay to class for glazing and firing. \nThis class includes glaze materials and the reduction firing\, which will take place at Judy Madison’s studio on the last day of class. Bags of clay can be purchased for $25 each during class. A personal pack of beginner clay tools can be purchased for $20 during class\, as studio tools are provided on a first come\, first served basis. \nThe Let’s Get Glazey Open Studio takes place Saturdays from 9am-5pm for each week that classes are active. Students must sign up and pay for open studio before their first class takes place in order to attend. The Let’s Get Glazey Open Studio is only open to students that are concurrently taking the Inside Look At Reduction class. \nPrevious experience with ceramics is encouraged. Please contact Yen Chu at yen@foothillsartcenter.org with any questions. \n***To receive the member / open studio rate – please “login” the upper right-hand corner of this page with the email associated with your membership***

SUMMARY:Modern Kintsugi
DESCRIPTION:Modern Kintsugi \nThursday March 6 from 5:30 – 8 pm \nIn person at Foothills Art Center Creative Campus. \nKintsugi is a 400 year old Japanese art form of the mending of ceramics — creating beauty from brokenness. Kintsugi’s philosophy reflects Japanese culture and teaches us the importance of cherishing and caring for things in our mass consumption society\, and the beauty of brokenness/imperfection in things and ourselves. \nIn this workshop we will guide a small group through a modern method of this ancient craft. You will see and feel the beauty you have created from the brokenness and reflect on your own life’s journey. All welcome and all materials needed for the experience will be provided. \n*NOTE* Each participant will need something broken or chipped to mend. Please do not break anything on purpose; the instructor will provide ceramic tiles for those who need one. \n  \nMembers $100/ Non-Members & Friends $130 \n  \n***To receive the member rate – please “login” on the upper right-hand corner of this page with the email associated with your membership***
