SUMMARY:Artist Talk with Tom Sarmo
DESCRIPTION:Artist Talk with Tom Sarmo \nDate: Saturday\, May 16\, 2026 \nTime:  2:00 – 3:00pm \nCost: Free \nLocation: Foothills Art Center – Astor House\, 1133 Arapahoe St \nDescription: \nEmbracing the Blessing and Breaking the Curse \nMy aim is/was to disintegrate the chains of “aiming to please” the real and imagined critical audience of my artworks\, and to neutralize my efforts to reach artistry through the quest for perfection.  \nFor me\, as well as many artists\, art has always been both a blessing and a curse; bringing the joy of creating along with the curse of striving for some unreachable pinnacle of precision/perfection. My belief is that true creativity is stifled by the curse\, and that the blessing is only found in releasing the imagination and letting the innate imagination flow without the restriction of fear. \nThe effort and task of two years was to try to let go and allow the pleasure of creation to flow in a relaxed manner. Silencing the internal voices–my own and the imagined or real voices of critics–took effort. It’s been a slow process; at times very successful and at others\, honestly still a task-in-process. \n-Tom Sarmo \nContact: For any questions\, please email Leslie Fitzsimmons at leslie@foothillsartcenter.org.

After all\, how do we begin to choose which stories to tell from all the days and years? And who cares? First of all\, no life is ordinary. No life is without miracles and magic\, great loss and great love. And probably no life is more crucial for our children to understand then ours\, because they share more than our genetics\, they share our spiritual DNA. What made us who we are\, helps them see who they can become. In that sense\, we leave them with more than stories. We leave them with meaning and hope.  \n  \nContact: For any questions\, please email Leslie Fitzsimmons at leslie@foothillsartcenter.org. \n***To receive the Member / Open Studio rate – please “login” the upper right- hand corner of this page with the email associated with your membership*** \n  \nPlease Note: Classes and workshops may be cancelled if enrollment minimums are not reached. SUMMARY:Golden StArt with Erika Vassallo
DESCRIPTION:Golden StArt with Erika Vassallo\nTuesday\, June 9\, 8:00-9:00am\nFREE\, RSVP Recommended\nLocation: Foothills Art Center – Creative Campus\, 809 15th Street. \nDescription: Golden StArt is a joint one-hour meetup program designed to bring artists in the area together with the Golden community to meet and talk about art. Join us for a chat with collage artist Erika Vassallo. \nAbout Erika:\nMy name is Erika Vassallo and I am an emerging artist that works primarily in collage. There is a special feeling that comes over me when I find a photograph or scrap of paper\, current or vintage\, and I know that I have to keep it. I have dozens of bins that hold a scrap of paper\, sometimes for years\, waiting to be matched with another piece. I try to keep my images simple\, hoping that the viewer will look at the image and want to look twice or at least walk away saying “hmmm”. A reinterpretation of the original images that will move the eye in an interesting way. I have no formal art training\, just a love for paper and a strong desire to learn as much as I can with the resources around me. \nI have enjoyed collage with my daughters for years. Collage is community and can be done alone or with a group. I am grateful to Foothills Art Center for such a vibrant and welcoming community that allows me to learn and share my work.
